CHARACTER
Name: Illyasviel von Einzbern
Canon: Fate/Stay Night
Age: Nineteen, however do to the fact she is an Einzbern homunculus she appears nine.
Timeline: After the first fight with Berserker (going through the Heaven’s Feel route).
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A
Personality: Illya is a very lonely girl deep beneath her cheerful exterior. Growing up she was never able to make any friends with people her own age, and it could be seen that really Kiritsugu was the only one too play with her. After her parents left – which is a whole other issue – Illya spent her days studying her magecraft so when the time came she can be a proper Master. This has left her with the desire to make new friends, allowing those she feels comfortable with to call her Illya instead of Illyasviel. Her loneliness, and perhaps perceived abandonment by her father – leads her to be a tad clingy with those she’s close too (see Shirou when she doesn’t want to kill him). She is also prone to talking about inane things at time, and is completely happy to do so.
This loneliness has also fueled her fear of being abandoned again. A fear that begun when her parents left for the Fourth Grail War she was told that her Mother would not be returning. Illya accepted this fact, knowing that no matter what Irisviel would be with her. What Illya did not know was that her father – Kiritsugu – would also not return. In her young mind he would be back in a few weeks. When he didn’t return, Illya was left to think that he abandoned her (something that her grandfather reinforced).
As a result Illya holds a deep anger towards her father – and by extension Shirou who she believes he replaced her with – though even that is conflicting. Initially Illya came to Fuyuki to kill both Emiya’s, and when she discovered Kiritsugu had passed away, just Shirou. This anger became more of a feeling of jealousy towards Shirou. However – despite this – Illya does grow to be very close to Shirou. It leads to a bit of an internal conflict given she’s suppose to kill him but at the same time she doesn’t want too. In the Heaven’s Feel route she is particularly torn, as she enjoys talking and spending time with Shirou, but also feels she can’t forgive him due to her father. She is also confused as to why he continues to visit her despite her flat out telling him that she wants to kill him.
And it is the truth. Illya does want to kill Shirou, even though she comes to see him as her brother (even if she tends to act more like the younger sister then older). There is a killer instinct that Illya has no doubt inherited from her father. Much like Kiritsugu, when it comes down to it, Illya has no problem killing. She is able to make calm, sometimes seen as cold, decisions.
One thing does remain for sure though, Illya will probably never forgive her father.
Now despite her loneliness Illya has grown to worry about those she cares about, as well as being very cheerful, albeit a little mischievous. She’s prone to play little pranks, or well, things she would consider little pranks - such as using transformation magic on Shirou when he didn’t notice her presence. She can tease people, though sometimes her words can come across a bit rudely. Illya is also a bit naïve to the world, having only known the Einzbern castle that she grew up and trained in. As such mundane things such as shopping are adventures for her.
Illya has also come to accept the fact that she will die either during the war or after it. She’s aware of the fact that she is the Grail’s vessel. As a child it frightened her, but as she’s grown she has come to accept it. It’s a bit of a resignation, but despite this she is confident that at the very least she will bring victory for the Einzbern's with Berserker.
She is also incredibly close to her Servant. Illya was able to summon him two months prior to when the other Masters began after being thrown into the wilderness. Berserker protected Illya when she was attacked, and since that day Illya knows that she is safe as long as he is around.
Background: Here be a link to her wiki! In the future I’ll be going by the Heaven’s Feel route.
Abilities:
Illya is said to be possibly the strongest of all Masters in the Fifth Holy Grail War, and that is partially because she was basically created to be one. She countless Command Spells all over her body as well as numerous Magic Circuits. As a result she is easily able to provide mana to Berserker without any problem as well as casting spells.
On top of this Illya has Mystic Eyes of Binding. This means that she is able to cast a suggestion spell that can almost cripple her target once she makes eye contact. Not only that but she is able to transfer someone’s consciousness into another object – like a tree – though she will be stern when saying that it is not a means to reincarnation.
Much like her Mother – Irisviel – Illya is able to summon high-performance familiars that take the shape of birds called Zelle by using strands of her hair. These familiars are very powerful and will automatically defend her from anyone that is attacking her – as seen during her fight against Rin. They are incredibly quick as well, able to fire small blasts as well and turn into swords (called Degen). Due to the Magic Circuits that cover her she is able to summon four without any problem.
Not only was Illya created to become a Master for the Fifth Grail War but she was also created as the vessel for the Holy Grail itself. When a Servant is killed their souls are transferred into her body, and when six have passed away leaving only one left Illya will vanish and give birth to the Grail. For Illya her limit is four Servants, if she absorbs more than that she will no longer be able to function as a human being. She must prioritize, shutting down her human functions in order to properly contain the spirits and ensure that the Grail is properly brought into existence. As a result of being the vessel she is also able to wear the Dress of Heaven, which allows her to assist Shirou in the Heaven’s Feel route, close the gates and destroy the Grail.

Third Person: There was snow.
Illya paused on the bridge in the park, looking up at the grey sky as the first flakes began to fall. A wide smile formed across her youthful face as she momentarily forgot about her current circumstance. With a giggle she rushed forward, stretching her arms out to her side and twirling. Illya giggled, happy to see something so familiar as the snow in such an unfamiliar city. While she hated the cold, she really did love the snow. It was always so beautiful. But on top of that it was short lived.
Like her.
That thought alone made her pause, keeping her arms outstretched to stare at the sky like a ballerina frozen mid twirl. She would not live another year, Illya knew that and she wasn’t sure if being in the city would change that. There was a part of her that was frightened by that thought, but it was something she had come to accept. But what would happen now that she was in this city for who knows how long? Would she die in a year, failing her duty as the Einzbern’s Master and Holy Grail? Would she live?
Illya wasn’t sure. She pushed the thoughts aside, letting her arms drop to her side. She really wasn’t sure.
She stood there on the bridge a bit longer, simply staring at the sky as the snow began to fall heavier and heavier.
